Björkvik, Ingarö

The lakes are frozen now, so we had to go out to the sea.


Put in at Björkvik, where we used to skate when the sea was frozen. A bunch of divers shared the beach with us.


It was windy and choppy. Dry suits, poogies and ample underwear needed.


Spirits are high.






Didn't see a soul either on the water or in the abundance of island cottages.




Well deserved coffee break after headwinds all morning.

The Northern Lights paddle, still happy about it. Even managed to fit the poogies, working perfect in fact.


Heading back in side and following winds. Definitely appreciated the latter better.

Hässelby Strandbad

I bought the dry suit in 2006 or -07, this is the first time since then that the lake is not frozen in January.


We had to break through some ice to get out,

Getting late to bring the boat up for the winter...


The Hässelby power plant is stocking up on wood chips.


Stopped for the usual coffee break, at the Hässelby strandbad. It was freezing.

Still Below the Freezing Point

Got to take every chance before the lake freezes over. Today at or just below the freezing point again.


The new paddle continues to behave well.


Head winds going west, so a coffee break was well deserved.

Think Peter is a bit envious although his pine paddle allowed him to use poogies.

Greenland mood

Took a day off work to try out my new three-piece carbon fibre Greenland paddle from Northern Lights (http://www.northernlightpaddles.com/the-paddles/). Today was less windy and the sun was to show up. Temperatures around the freezing point.


More or less the first time I tried a Greenland paddle, but I have read up on how to use it.


The paddle is really beautiful, smooth and with a perfect grip. Even considering I had to wear gloves due to the temperature.




I think I managed decently. Taking my time, I am doing the same speed as usual judging by the GPS (i.e. 5-7 km/h).


By now you recognize the royal palace, right?

Cold & Damp

A damp and misty November Saturday.
