Sollenkroka - Furusund

Expediton time again. Peter L, Peter N, Magnus and myself. This my stuff.


We headed out from Sollenkroka on Wednesday night. Here Peter N is headed for Sollenkroka island.


We moved north between Ängsholmen and Samsholmen. Continued west of Hjälmö and further for our first night. The skies showed that a thunderstorm could be headed our way.

Thursday provided a strong SW wind and sea. As the forecast showed continued strong winds, we decided to skip the eastward route and go for the more sheltered one. Here Peter N (Mr Prijon) and Magnus (Mr Kajaksport) has reached calmer water after crossing over to Svartnö.

The islands here are heavily exploited with an abundance of summer houses.

At Finnhamn we rented a hut. Here Peter N is giving a speach in celebration of my birthday. Thanks guys!


Friday morning and the forecast says Saturday will be bad and Sunday terrible. We start discussing cutting it short and skipping Sunday. But today is brilliant.

Paddled east of Skäret and Lundö...


...and into Klint sundet.




Just proving that George Truly was there too. Not like those "solo"-expeditions to Mount Everest were you wonder who is filming the struggling adventurer.


We had lunch at Själbottna. Here the Peters are rescuing their stuff after the local ferry boat has passed.

Found a campsite south of Ängsö. Ängsö is a reserve and no camping allowed.

...well, maybe a bit.


"A red night, a sailors delight". Well, in fact the forecast kept saying that Sunday would be awful. So now we decided to cut Sunday out.






Saturday was cold and moist, but we visited Ängsö.


Bird sanctuary, no visitors up til Aug 15th. We passed the day after, lucky us (but no visit anyway).


We passed the shipyard at Högmarsö.




Through the narrow sound between Högmarsö and Aspö...


...and headed for Furusund, where Peter N has a summer house with his parents and sister.


Ended the trip with a nice dinner at the restaurant in Furusund.


Stayed the night at Peters place and were picked up in pouring rain on Sunday a.m. Glad we choose to cut Sunday off the tour.

Lådna and Gällnö

Peter L and I had a day trip in the Lådna archipelago.


That monopod really helps when Peter doesn't bring a camera.




Here's Lådna.


We debated having lunch at the restaurant on the nearby Träskö island, but went for our own snacks.


Found a nice beach for that lunch.


Had to dress up for the homeward bound part as winds and chill increased.


Returned via the sounds at Getudden and north of Puttisholmen.

Rävsnäs - Söderarm, almost

Magnus, Peter L and myself attempted to reach Söderarm.


We started out from Rävsnäs on Friday night.


Had a short trip north of Tjockö and found a campsite south of Gisslingö.


...a sandy beach.


In those waters the sound of ships are heard at all hours.


Peter was a good boy and went to bed but Magnus and I sat up too long. Enjoyable sights though at this time of year. This is sun set, but dawn is just an hour away.


Saturday was rainy and cold...


..but we were here to paddle.




Heading towards the shipping lane.




We were a bit anxious about the crossing due to the heavy traffic. Looking in both directions, nothing in sight. Half way across this cruise ship turns up. A ten minute sprint from our side, but the ship headed directly for us - and then, with inches to go (OK a couple of 100 meters) - it turned. Yeah it had to, we were now close to land. But that kept us warm for an hour of two. They come quickly here - beware!

So we broke for a snack at Bredskär.

Although we could see Söderarm, it was another 3 kilometers to go there. Winds were supposed to increase so we headed back east but on a southern course.




After searching for more than hour we found a place to camp. It's really difficult in this area with rocky shores. But this place was beatiful. Here's breakfast.

As there was quite a SW wind, we headed into it for an hour, down to Marö.


Here we crossed the shipping lane, safe this time. Then we had a good surf back up NE..

With newly aquired dry suits, what prevents us from paddling in March? Nothing.


Not a day for sailing, but what's that strange shape of the water?


Yeah, it's ice - but navigatable.
